PROBLEM 10. Printing
problems...letters will not print, other printing OK
All printing is OK except the letters, which appear to print but nothing
comes out of the printer. A few users have had this problem and the reasons
are not known. However it is almost always possible to fix it by the methods
listed below.
Fix
Please
try the following fixes, one at a time, try the program again after each attempted
fix.
Comments
This is an rare bug which affects certain printers only. I am unable to isolate
what causes it. It does not affect PG6 or PG5
PROBLEM 11. No more
space available in the Case Record
Everything is proceeding normally until you find you cannot add anything else
to the Case Record text. This is unusual and will only occur when the Case Record
has reached a total of 8 or 9 pages, so it is pretty long ! I have
placed no restriction on this item, but it appears that the PC operating system
may restrict the amount of text that can be entered in this area.
Fix
No fix is available at this time.
Work around
The best option is to reduce the amount of text in the Case Record in some way.
You can edit this
and delete information that is no longer required from the start of the record.
Before doing this you could print out the record, so that the full text so far
is available in printed format, then delete some text.
Or you can highlight (select) the text and then cut and past this into your
word processor and save the file, so you do not lose the original text.
To copy text, select it then press CTRL-C.
To cut text, select it then press CTRL-X.
To paste text which has just been copied or cut,
press CTRL-V. (These are Windows commands)
Make sure the copying or printing process has worked OK before actually deleting
anything from the Case Record.
You can open a Word processor document to receive the text from the case record,
or use Notepad, or you could open a new letter in the PG7 word processor and
paste the text into that...then save it as a "draft" letter with a
helpful name such as "Mr Smith client record part1-do not delete".
Be aware that the text
in the PG7 case record is not word procesor word wrapped text...it is individual
lines. You will not be able to manipulate it easily in a word processor
Comments
An 8 or 9 page (A4 page) Case Record is a very long one. At the time of writing
only two bureaux have reported this problem in 5 years of PGdebt 5, 6 and 7
and I am not intending to change the program at present.
PROBLEM 12. Court forms
page 1 will not print, page 2 prints OK
This problem seems to occur with certain Epson Colour Inkjets.
Fix
Reload the printer driver, this usually does it...or obtain the latest driver
from the manufacturers web site and load that.
Work around
None known, this seems to be a printer driver issue
PROBLEM 13. Word processor words and letters superimposed on printout
but look fine on screen
On a small
percentage of PCs, it can happen that letters and words can appear to be OK
on screen, but when printed, they arte pushed together or superimposed. We are
not sure why this only happens to some PCs, but the issue can be fixed by reverting
to Word Processor simple mode. Go to the Options/supervisor/security screen
and place a tick alongside the line "Use WP simple mode". That will
cure this issue.
PROBLEM
14. If I change
an individual letter after merging, the changes are lost if I maove away, then
move back to the same letter
If you want to make changes to an individual letter, it is now necessary
to print the letter out before moving on to the next one. Only one letter is
shown on screen at a time and if you move away from it all changes are lost
whether you move back again or not. With PG8 it was possible to change several
letters and then click the "Print all" button to print all letters
with the changes. With PG9 the changes are only retained whilst the letter is
in view so you have to print it whilst it is in view. This difference is a result
of changing the way the WP works to accomodate email-merge and allow different
letters to have different lengths, it is not a deliberate change, but it cannot
now be reversed.
You should not have to make frequent changes to individual letters, this defeats the purpose of mail merge. If you want to make a change to all letters, make the change before merging. If you find you are frequently changing the same items on a letter, consider changing the standard letter itself.
